The word Salem means peace, which is the goal that I help my clients and their families achieve through the process of psychotherapy.
During these times of extreme stress, many people - men, women and children, struggle with depression, anxiety, other mood disorders and substance abuse. I use a combination of cognitive behavioral (learning how our thinking can change the way we feel) and supportive therapy. I will also use insight oriented therapies to achieve an understanding into why negative behaviors and destructive relationships continue to cause problems in your life.
Many of my clients are struggling in their marriages and relationships. We will work to strengthen and heal these relationships and explore the reasons why they are struggling. You will be able to use the new communication skills learned in therapy to improve all of your relationships including those with your spouse, children, extended family and at work.
I specialize in treating children and adolescents with behavioral problems by working closely with parents and schools to develop behavior modification plans specifically targeting the challenging behaviors. I have experience in the treatment of self destructive behaviors including eating disorders and self mutilating behaviors. I am very comfortable working with general practice physicians and psychiatrists if it is determined that medication could help facilitate the therapy process.
When appropriate, I use a solution focused treatment approach; we will work on the goals for therapy and then you will have the skills to leave therapy and practice the skills we've worked on. My clients appreciate this opportunity and you are always welcome to come back to therapy whenever you may need to.
As a wife and mother of three children, one whom is disabled, I am very aware of the struggles and challenges of family life today. My faith is an integral part of my life and if it would be helpful to you, I am pleased to use scripture to compliment our work together.
